Science has clearly demonstrated that tired workers are impaired workers. They are forgetful, more confrontational, have trouble with complex decision making, are slower to react, use flawed logic and demonstrate poor judgment. Their physical, mental and emotional health suffers. Errors are more frequent, injuries rise and overall work performance suffers.
Today, extended hours and shift work are necessary to meet the demands of an industrialized global economy, but it comes at a cost. The consequences are operational, societal, and personal.
